Yes the Winter League started today though the forecast was for rain in the afternoon. Probably that is why we had the low turnout today, only 11 entries. Where were you other guys, you can't all have been fitting kitchens? Before the rain, we had the forecast of SSW winds at 17 mph.Seemed like it might be a good day's flying. What we got was 43 mph increasing to 53 mph as the comp went on.
Not a lot of fun when it is on East Lomond at that speed.
Very bumpy, less lift than expected, though we should know what the hill is like we've used it often enough. With the skies darkening up ahead we closed after 5 rounds, 1 discard and some carnage, I reckon the hill won today.
As it has turned out, we quit too early. The wind is still blowing, the hill is still clear and we could have gone on to the full 10 rounds, aw nuts!!! Peter Gunning hit the fastest time of the day with 41.32s. George Young had his first sub 50, with 47.75s. Well done to both.
This report does read kinda negative, sorry I don't mean it to, we all had fun, we all flew models, we had a better time than Scotland might have this evening, oops not to say that. George and Peter went home happier than usual, great to see a relative newbie G Y, showing the old hands how to handle the strong wind in round 5 with a 47.75s run and getting second place in that round. Mind you, he was flying my old Pike W.R. and I know that thing can fly!!
Peter had the FTD, 41.32s, he's been "gunning" for that all year, had to, just had to put that in.
How can I forget to add that David Loomes, after his threatening to kick some bottom with his flying, did just that and placed 3rd with his Wizard, how about that then.
Now to the placings, after a wee slip up on the hill side and the scores being manually adjusted at home, (Dave Watson had 2 rounds which did not appear on the 'puter screen but were written in the score sheet) strange. Once they were added they made the scores just as Martin Gibbs had predicted but had hoped he was wrong. Next time Martin, you get him.
