Well we finally had a thermal event at the Dunfermline site.
It involved a long wait for the weather clearing and the cloud lifting above the launch height of our models. Gordon kept us amused by continually trying the skies and having to dive his model back into his own and our vision. By 12 it looked as though it may be possible so we made a start to the competition
The wind was very light Easterly, veering South/ East and swinging back, this was fortunate as it meant that the winches did not need to be moved around. Launches were not particularly high unless you hit a bit of thermal on the way up. Lift was light, I do mean light and quite well spread with one or two better patches appearing as the day progressed.
17 entries were received, doubling up with 100s and Classic certainly helps fill the slots.
A matrix had been sorted out during the dismal, dank period in the morning and with a little modification for the omitted pilots it worked well. Omitted by me that is, sorry guys no disrespect intended, just an age thing.
I would have liked to run a flyoff after the rounds but the weather appeared to be deteriorating, rain coming in. Needless to say once the winches were away the weather brightened and we had the best of the day's weather as we drove home.
What can I add, except thanks for coming along and supporting this event, the first thermal comp run by Fife Soarers unfortunately not on their own fields. This field was the Dunfermline MAC power site which they loaned us for the day, thanks to them as well.
We will be looking into running another event in the near future, we will keep you posted.
