01/09/07   Attempt 1  for League 6 cancelled, what a bummer.

After a short break from Foamie racing we prepared for the F3f. The wind speed by the time we got round to starting F3f was reading steady 73 mph gusting to 82 mph making it very difficult to hold the tranny, balance yourself and control a model.

The landing zone was usable but with extreme caution so sensibility prevailed, the comp was cancelled and all the models remained intact.

By 4.00 p.m. the wind was starting to abate but it was deemed too late to make a start so myself, Peter G and Ian S all had a wee fly in the now superb, smooth air that the 65 mph wind was producing, landings were a bit easier as well, but not comfortable.

There will be another day, next week in fact.

Unfortunately Part 2 never took place, wind map failed us. The scheduled WNW 15 mph which would have given us 35 - 40 on the face never appeared. The wind was Northerly meaning all the model fliers, the para gliders, the hang gliders and the full size were scuppered on what should have been a superb days flying. We got some play flying in and some piccies, Dave's link is below as usual. i will add some others later.

Go to You Tube and type in RONS LAUNCH, this will give you a taste of the conditions and the dangers of high wind launching.

Once the model was clear of the ground effect it flew tremendously, as expected.

Well they're only bits of plastic and they cant tell what the wind speed is, especially once they are out of your hand. :-)

Attempt 2 Sat Oct 6/ 2007

At least today we got a comp completed. In what started out as favourable conditions, improved as the day went along and then faded into farce 8 rounds were completed. When round 8 was won with a time of 57.xx we decided to call it quits as the 'puter batteries were getting low anyway.

A fairly early start meant that the sun did not get in the way of things as the day progressed. The wind direction was S/SW 25 mph wind which favoured East Lomond though seeing the amount of paragliders using their part of Bishop probably meant that we could have flown there as well. This wind on Bishop would have made it a better comp but it is too late to worry about that now.  East Lomond is notorious for having decent wind and little lift, today was no exception but we just had to get on with it. 44.34 secs was the fastest recorded time, most were around the 50-55  + a bit like the fliers ages.

13 entries were taken and the top 5 were as follows;

So that's 6 down, a discard can now come into play for those who have enough events in.

One more to go in the Summer League, roll on 20/ Oct/ 2007.
