Report from Scotland, 6 flew, various sites.
Brian's report.
Hi Ron. I got out on the Kinross field and had 5 flights with the Sharp Wind. No end of problems on this narrow field. The line ended up wrapped round the portacabin, in the fence, round my car and round the starting benches - a real pain in the ***. My scores were as follows (1) 6:03 / 1 m (2) 5:55 / 1 m (3) 4:48 / 2 m (4) 5.58 / 3m (5) 5:23 / 2 m I dont know if these are of any use to you.
My report, The saturday was scheduled as a day for flying on the slope, (we are versatile in Scotland), unfortunately the wind was a bit too light for F3f racing so slope flying ended early.
Sunday's forecast was supposed to be better for flat field and most of the fliers decided to make a date for the Linlithgow site. I knew I would have problems making that so I waited and watched the weather on the Saturday afternoon. The light breeze moderated even more and I decided to chance flying on a small local field which has become more and more enclosed by housing.
Weather by this time was 5 -10 mph N/E wind. It had actually turned warm in the late afternoon.
I enlisted the assistance of a couple of youths who have come and watched, helped in the past.
Happily not all teenage kids are just waiting on the big crash. I have even entrusted my Tx and models in some of their hands, much to my surprise they seemed to enjoy it and were extremely grateful, well they did not try to smash the 'plane, for which I am eternally grateful.
I had one test launch and was pleasantly surprised that there seemed to be lift about. A quick landing and lets get the stop watches out. Now the guys have timed before when we have had mini comps at the field so there was no great learning curve required. On that afternoon/evening the times were not difficult to achieve, but the tight tree line and short grass almost caused a wee hiccup in my landing performance. Fortunately for me it did not.
Martin's report, Date: 4 April 2006 Weather: cold 10mph north wind, sunny.
Andy Lewis / Pike Superior
Tom Preston / Stork
Gordon Ballantine / Tracker
Marin Gibbs / Corrado
Previous attempts to run the event had been thwarted by the weather but at last an opportunity arose and four fliers gathered at the Linlithgow club field. The north wind was blowing down the slope of the field so we were launching and landing up hill. Andy Lewis made it look easy while first time IPC fliers Gordon and Martin enjoyed the experience vowing to practice for the next event.
